Whether the original mineral was even corundum remains to be confirmed.

Bob Ramik from the ROM is working on this material, and
tells me that what was thought to be plain old corundum by Goldschmidt is
in fact a rather interesting pseudomorph, with a rind of dravite and the
centre a mixture of calcite and other minerals!
Whether the original mineral was even corundum remains to be confirmed.
